Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect at my first session?
Your first session is introductory and will include an intake, where we will review the forms you completed prior to your first appointment, examine the risks and benefits of treatment, the limits of confidentiality, and sign a consent to treat. During the intake interview you will have an opportunity to share history and background, mental health information, your goals for therapy, and explore any questions you may have. Each session is an hour in length in an in-person setting.
Will I receive a diagnosis?
If you do not have a previous diagnosis, one will be assigned as a diagnosis is required by insurance for processing claims.
Can you prescribe medication?
No, however, I can collaborate with your primary care physician should medication become an appropriate adjunct to therapy. If you do not have a primary care physician, I can assist you with referrals.
What is your treatment approach?
My treatment approach is collaborative. You may be more future oriented or choose to explore your past. Perhaps, you prefer a narrative approach and need space and validation as you talk through your issues. Some individuals find a solution focused approach more effective.
Do you offer free consultations?
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation for individuals seeking treatment. Details of the 15-minute consultation are in the “contact” section of the website.
Do you accept my insurance?
I am credentialed with several insurance companies. The best way to know if I am in network is to call your insurance company. In order to be flexible with my time and schedule, I do not make insurance calls.
How often should I schedule my appointments?
Frequency and duration is very individualized and depends on your issues and your goals for therapy. Clients typically attend on a weekly or bi-weekly basis at the start and may transition to a monthly or as-needed status.
